Fear to Trust
Psalms 56:3 KJV
(3) What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.
So, it’s not that fear won’t bother to show up any more. In fact, there’s a good chance that it will come knocking from a lot more directions. The stronger the passion and the greater the commitment, the more numerous the areas where attacks might come. For those in Christ, though, there is something other than a welcome mat for the threatening intruder. Perfect love casts out fear.(1John 4:18) Walking through the shadow of death doesn’t have to include fear, because of the presence of the Lord. (Psalm 23:4) When God is your shield and great reward, fear doesn’t have to remain. (Genesis 15:1) To the arrival of fear there can be a response of trust. (Psalms 56:3) Presented with an overwhelming, threatening enemy, instead of embracing the fear that comes with that presentation, one can turn instead to seek the Lord where fear is dispelled. (2Chronicles 20:2-3)
“The only thing to fear is fear itself.” (FDR) Ok, but that fear will not go without the infusion of something that dispels and expels it. When it comes to God, there just ain’t room for fear and Him in the same room. Go where He is, seek His face, receive His love and there will be no room for fear to remain. This transformation, this process is trust itself, where a worship relationship with God gives fear the left foot of fellowship. To fellowship with God is to lose all ties to that other fellow to which there used to be such an incredible bond. “What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.”
There is a place of trust to be found in the presence of God today, where the fear that may have already presented itself can be shown to the door and given the boot. Rather than pal around with fear, giving it an embrace and a guest room, we can experience that incredible freedom and release as that old oppressor is on the other side of a closed door. To worship God today with a sacrifice of praise and an abandoned heart will be an experience of sweet trust, where God is given access and fear is ostracized.
