Getting In His Head
Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
Have you ever known someone who was talking a certain talk, but you would just like to get in their head and find out what they were really thinking? They might be very flattering, full of promises and commitments that should make you feel very secure and encouraged, and yet, because of having been burned so many times before by broken promises and commitments, there is a reticense that totally disables any confidence in the words being sent your way? It all sounds really good, but when it comes to actually planning your life around their statements, there will just have to be a whole lot more verification of validity? Rather than getting burned again and really not wanting to miss out on a good thing either, you decide to make a go of a trial version. The only way to really know if it’s as good as it sounds is to try it yourself and put all those words to the test. If what’s being said is what’s really going on in his head, if he can really do everything that’s being claimed, then he’ll follow through on a few entry level things that will reveal and prove the true activity of his heart and mind.
Now, have you ever known someone who is incredibly brilliant and capable of expounding upon just about any subject with an understanding that is overwhelming? The activity in that brain is impressive and beyond comprehension or full appreciation. What comes out of their mouth is on a level that is almost like another language, and may, at many times, be another language. To begin to relate to this individual and have any repore whatsoever seems to be a completely futile endeavor. To try and keep up with or follow any of their thoughts would be like a tortoise trying to keep up with a cheetah. There is obviously a great deal going on up there in their heads, but bringing any of that lofty thinking down to earth and actually making any use of it would be something beyond ability or even desire.
When we come in contact with the Being that operates on planes that are so far beyond our realm of existence it can easily bring on a sense of skepticism and intimidation at the same time. Though we’re given a whole book of words that have been inspired by Him, presenting His nature and His heart, His promises and prophecies, there can be significant barriers to totally letting go and going with the full package deal. Sounds good, but letting Him guide and transform life’s direction and choices is a very challenging step. If only you could just get in His head and really know His thoughts and intentions, if only you could know for sure that what He said He would do is exactly what He is still intending to do, there would be much more confidence in a decision to follow Him without reservation.
With God, though, there is an incredible opportunity to do just that- get in His head and find out that He actually aligns His thoughts with what He has spoken. He already knows what His thoughts are regarding His promises toward us, and He is bound in the commitment of His heart to complete His work where given the chance. We can begin to experience the reality of this truth as each discovery of His nature and intentions from His Word is put to the taste test for goodness and validity. Though His thoughts and ways are so far above ours, He has made His superiority accessible on a level that even a small child can begin to experience the faithfulness of His thoughts to what His words have declared. As His Word begins to direct our life and transform our way of thinking, His thoughts can become our thoughts in regard to our small realm of existence, and we can begin to have great confidence in our own personal relationship with a Father who only has our best interests in His heart and mind.
What a joy it is to hang out with someone you know has warm feelings towards you, that would go anywhere and do anything to not only help you out, but insure you get where you’re needing to go. You just can’t help but be drawn to them as knowing them enhances everything about your own life. God is the ultimate Father you can trust to not only speak good things, but think good thoughts, and do exactly what He said He’d do. Not only does He talk the talk, He thinks the thought and will most definitely walk the walk. The more you get into His head and let every trial of His faithfulness pass the taste test, the more skepticism will give way to confidence, faith and heart-felt passion. As His Word is lived His thoughts will be known to be faithful and embracing.
Psalms 33:11 The counsel of the LORD standeth for ever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations.
1 Corinthians 2:16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.
Philippians 2:5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
Philippians 2:13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

Hi, Steve,
I’m enjoying your messages! I have been thinking about these things too. We are joined to the Lord- He being the head-we the body. He really needs us to move in coordination, which requires relationship. Mark always says that God will not tell you some things if He has told it to someone you are to be in relationship with-you’ll have to get it from them.
We love you and your family. Give them our love! Especially the dog!
