Delivery Guy
2 Corinthians 4:6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
:7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.
Don’t shoot the delivery guy- ok, but you might not want to make too much out of him either. The really incredible value is what he carries in that vehicle of his. There might be some appreciation gained for the consistency and faithfulness of his service. He might paint his truck a nice brown color and he might wear a nice uniform, but when it comes down to it, what you really care about is what he has to give you when he shows up at the door. Choosing his service and his delivery over his competition might have something to do with his smile, his reputation and the stability of his business, but the greatest value he will ever have is not the presentation of himself, but the treasure he will deliver to the waiting recipient. No matter how impressive he looks when he shows up at the door, if he fails to produce the expected or needed package, the presentation of himself will only bring disdain upon him and he will have to leave, never having fulfilled his real purpose.
How precious is this treasure we carry – the very knowledge of God’s glory in the face of Jesus. The same God that by His words brought light into a darkened universe has actually illuminated our hearts with His love, power, mercy, grace, and freedom. His shining, though, has been like the placement of a valuable package within our care. Somehow He has chosen us to not only receive its brightness ourselves, but to actually carry its incredible power to others who are in desperate need of its light. Though there is an incredible honor associated with delivering this treasure, the excellence and glory will always need to remain alone on what is being delivered. As soon as adoration, affection and honor is focused upon the messenger, there will be a dimming of the treasure’s light, and as soon as the appearance, charm, and presentation of the vehicle becomes more important than what it contains, there will be a failure in fulfilling its intended purpose.
There is a route to be run today. There is an incredible resource that has been placed within our care for our own sustenance, but also for everyone we will touch along the route we take. May the brightness of His glory not be veiled by the promotion of the delivery guy over what he has to deliver. May the excellency of God’s power be unhindered by the frailties of fleshly limitations, and may our decrease bring His increase. True glory will never be found in self promotion, but in lifting up and magnifying the Treasure that has no equal and requires no clarification or packaging, just delivery. Whether small or great, eloquent or slow of speech, handsome or unsightly, the Treasure’s brightness is no less in each vessel and is equally effective wherever delivered.
John 3:30 He must increase, but I must decrease.
