Stuff That Talks

2 Corinthians 10:2  But I beseech you, that I may not be bold when I am present with that confidence, wherewith I think to be bold against some, which think of us as if we walked according to the flesh.
:3  For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:

I’ve had this thought for some time of how much fun it would be to dress up in something like overalls and worn-out boots, so that it would appear that I’m penniless, and go to the showroom of the most expensive cars in town. What would make it most enjoyable would be to have a dilapidated knapsack full of more than enough cash to pay for their top of the line vehicle. Walking into their place of business, where the commissions are high along with prestige, would be the answer to their hopes for the day, but the salesmen, trained so well in the skill of pre-qualifying would have no way of determining this, based upon appearances. If past observances would bear true in this case, I would just be left to wander around the showroom on my own, not really given the time of day and not considered to be a legitimate prospect just because of the way I looked. After an exaggerated period of lonely meandering from fancy car to fancy car, it would be most delightful to somehow drop the knapsack on the way to the door and have its contents exposed and spread out on the floor. Though it hadn’t looked like it the stuff that talks in showrooms had been there all along.

It would appear to the world and even to ourselves sometimes that what we’re up to has something to do with the way we look. White boys can’t jump or groove, geeks can’t make a basket, and jocks can’t find their way around a computer. Our acceptance, reception and confidence might have something to do with the impression we make on the pre-qualifiers, but in all actuality, we are carrying around in our knapsack the stuff that talks in showrooms. There is more than enough power we’ve been given to accomplish anything that is before us, and we have the ability to drive off in whatever we choose based upon something that goes way beyond the presentation of our flesh. No matter the battle, no matter the challenge, there is a treasure in our earthen vessels that has everything to do with the power and ability of God, and nothing to do with the appearance of our flesh. With this understanding we can begin to step boldly into places we may have feared to trod, and we can begin to accept and receive those we encounter with full assurance of their value and capability regardless of the color or detail of their package.

2 Corinthians 10:4  (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
