But Ants
Psalms 83:5 And now they’re putting their heads together, making plans to get rid of you. (The Message)
It’s always been so incredible to me how something as tiny as a little ant can navigate, collaborate, motivate and accomplish so much, given so very little. When you consider the magnitude of technical resources it would take to just produce what is displayed in even the tiniest little version that shows up on the kitchen counter, it is truly amazing that so much ability can be contained in such a small creature. They can seek out and discover traces of food in places very far from home and then find their way back home, carrying several times their own weight and avoiding threats to their passage. There is so much intelligence there and such an awesome display of their Creator’s inspired formation.
There is actually a whole colony of these wonderful creatures that are at this very moment collectively pooling their giftings and their resources to do something very dramatic- take over the back yard. They have noticed how arrogantly we go out there and till this and cut that, how we construct this and remove that, and they’ve determined that surely if they just get together on this project, they can finally rid themselves of any restriction we might present from them running here and there, and doing whatever they please. They have an organization that is well structured and they’ve already established themselves securely in many strongholds. There is a chain of command and they are all focused and determined to accomplish this incredible feat, no matter the cost. They’re also equipped with weapons and have been taught to inflict their pain upon us whenever and wherever possible. Surely this is their right. Surely, given the magnitude of their computing skills, and their ability to use them for our demise, they should be able to live completely free of any evidence of our presence.
No matter how evolved they get, however, and no matter the volume of their forces, there is something they will always be - ants, though wonderful in their own creative workmanship, still far, far below any comparison with their human rivals. They may land a blow here or there, but ultimately all that their efforts at back yard dominance achieve is drawing attention to their congregation. The greater their uprising, the greater will be their fall, when the judgment of the real back yard owner determines that it’s time for them to go. No matter how frantically they scramble about doing all they can for this noble cause, their ultimate end is already secured and there is no doubt that their demise is coming at the direction of this creature that just is and will always be on a far superior level and beyond their realm of comprehension.
Great in number and loud in voice, there are congregations of ants that have come together in different organizations throughout the world to accomplish a high and lofty goal- rid the earth of God’s dominance and His outdated restrictions. This is a highly intellectual group of folks that have proven their loftiness in these mounds of accomplishment that have risen here and there. They point to what they have, by the provision of their Creator, been able to accomplish and they are determined to prove that their independent abilities do not need the influence of the Old Ancient One, who is obviously just a threat to their desire to run here and do that at will.
As wonderful and exalted as they may be, though they would consider themselves to be further evidence of evolution’s progress, there is something they’re missing that is very critical in the ultimate scheme of things- they are but ants in comparison to this One they would remove. Their grandest efforts and their most thought out plans will ever be subject to the judgment of the One who owns the yard. It’s really quite simple and strips the need for any of that award winning intellect- He is the Creator and they are but the creation. Their ultimate demise is certain and no amount of whining or pontificating will alter what is coming their way, a divine demonstration that will make it very clear who is really who.
I’m so grateful for the provision of our loving Creator that makes it possible for us to avoid being included with the pompous plotters of His demise. I’m so glad that He’s made it possible for us to be new creatures in Christ, actually joining the ranks of the back yard owners. By giving in to His ways and His love instead of resisting them we can rise to know the joy and fulfillment of the truly free life - completed and protected by His loving care. With prayers for opened eyes and hearts to the truth that will only set them free, there can be for us a severe and strong resistance to even one of their thoughts that would exalt itself against the knowledge of God and the preservation of our place in His favor.
Psalms 83:18 Then they’ll learn your name: “GOD,” the one and only High God on earth.
