Be Still
Num 13:30 And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.
It is such a wonderful thing, when the hope light is turned on and potential is seen as real possibilities; vision is set and the way made. There is an excitement and exhilaration over the description of the adventure and where it will lead. Whether a relationship, a skill, an education, a career, vacation, or God, there is an initial thrill and exuberance over what is promised.
At this time there is a great deal of talk and commotion over what’s going to take place. In the case of a newly discovered soul mate, whether friend or spouse, they begin to crowd out other thoughts and dominate the subject of conversations with others. For the prospect of a career change for the unsettled provider, there is much to discuss and think about when a door of opportunity opens in a more promising and fulfilling direction. Something very powerful is actually taking place in the noise of the possibility’s celebration. Belief is being given fuel and hope is made to shine in the commotion of the considerations that this thing will actually take place- (live happily ever after and all that) Faith is arising that will bring motivation for the necessary steps that will turn nothing into something significant.
At this pep rally time, though, it is necessary that there also be a stilling of the commotion and a careful consideration that it is not by might, or power, but by the Spirit of the Lord that this thing He has promised and for which He’s given inspiration will come to pass. This quieting is so critically necessary, because there is soon to be a barrage of loud opposition.
There will be no great victory or accomplishment without a long list of shouted reasons why this idea can never be successful. Without an ability to shut out those loud voices, clanging noises, discouragements, and oppositions- stealing away into that secret place in Him, there will never be real strength or belief in that time when our shout and our response is in need of it. It won’t be the emotionally shouted outbursts that will be the most challenging and yet make the most difference. With Jericho, there were days of silence that prepared for the few moments in which the shouts would be used for the wall’s demise. A whole night of silent seclusion with His Father and away from the parties enabled Jesus to take just the right action or speak just the right word that would lead to deliverance and healing. It is incredible how that the power enabled in the spoken words of faith is prepared and cultivated in those moments in which no sound is present to distract from focus on the One from whom all power and ability will come. It is a wonderful thing to have a celebration of victory, but somehow it is in the moments of stillness that the true victory is won, when nothing else is allowed to be a distraction from the glory of God. Words, shouts, and sounds that come from those moments of intense focus on Him alone are then filled with true substance that knows no rival. Victory is inevitable.
There is in this day an opportunity to see the salvation of the Lord. There will also be an abundance of opposition to the Spirit’s calling and the Father’s promise. This will be a day of choosing to behold God, silencing the voices of doubt and confusion, and entering into the joy of the Lord with boldness and confidence. This is a day of resting in faith and seeing and knowing the goodness of the Lord in every aspect of living. Be still.
Psalm 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.
