Trust/Love Jdg 16:15 She said, "How can you say 'I love you' when you won't even trust me? Three times now you've toyed with me, like a cat with a mouse, refusing to tell me the secret of your great strength." What does it take? To gain that illusive commitment of trust is there a special requirement of verified safety and validity? Does is have to be proven that the new keeper of the heart's secrets is above reproach and established in righteousness, or is there just a need to somehow gain access to a passion of the heart? Of all those people and things that are vying for custody of this, our most treasured possession, what will it take to remove the veil of secrecy, touching and influencing the very source of strength? There is this unlimited potential, this ability of amazing proportions that has been placed within each of our hearts by the One who made us. No matter what the outward appearance might be and without regard for any physical or other impairments, there is a special gift of world-changing power that is only in need of trust. For this incredible ability to actually reach its potential and make its impact on the world, it is much more essential that the right choices are made with regard to who or what might touch and affect it. For most, it will never get past the most hidden level of secrecy, because of who or what is entrusted with its necessary time, energy and passion. While the gift is patiently waiting, the trust of the heart is given to other things that have been 'toyed' with, things that soak up all its resource and cut away the required element of it strength. And, these things are often of a nature that will bring harm and damage to the place that functions best in holiness. Greasy fast food and sweets are entrusted with the nourishment of the physical body, while the sit-com and morally deficient movie or music are given a welcome to the emotionally and spiritually needy areas of the heart. While it may not be obvious to the one giving the trust, there is a revelation taking place in how these things are chosen. This statement from the ungodly woman in Samson's life is an accurate description of what is taking place every time we allow something or someone access to the secret place of our physical, emotional, and spiritual being. Through having 'toyed' with them, the heart has embraced and welcomed them to come in and be 'loved' to the point of complete trust of the most vulnerable and precious place in which our gift resides. Surrounded by these other 'passions', the gift is deprived of what it needs to survive and grow. What is loved is trusted and the love for the cheap replacements removes the love for the precious gift, along with its trust. 1Jo 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. It is interesting to talk with some that are very resistant to ever trusting God with the intimate and personal parts of the heart. While thinking that they are free from trust and the need to depend on anything, the cigarette in their hand reveals a love and passion that has given the contents of a little paper cylinder access to the secrets of its strength. Thinking that there might be a loss of control somehow, that there might be a loss of life and its pleasures to the One who is holy, the choice is made instead to hold on to those things that only lead to death and destruction. If God could only be allowed to 'toy' with them for a few moments, it would be seen that He is most attractive and worthy of all our love and trust. It is really only sweet to trust in Jesus. Like the talented musician or the gifted surgeon, there will always be a need to maintain the trust and not allow foreign enticements to maneuver in and take possession once again. If the gift is to be continually lifted to its potential, the trust of its care must be maintained in practice and study. Likewise, for those who have found trust in Jesus to be sweet, there will always be that other 'voice' crying out for our love, trust and possession of our secret gift. Only love and passion for the Keeper of our soul will bring the trust that gives Him full access to care for our heart in the way only He can. Strength and power will grow again in the place where it may have been cut away. What's it take? Seeing and knowing Him will change it all. He'll be loved and trusted forever. 5/5/06
