To Us Deu 5:1 Moses called all Israel together. He said to them, Attention, Israel. Listen obediently to the rules and regulations I am delivering to your listening ears today. Learn them. Live them. Deu 5:2 GOD, our God, made a covenant with us at Horeb. Deu 5:3 GOD didn't just make this covenant with our parents; he made it also with us, with all of us who are alive right now. Deu 5:4 GOD spoke to you personally out of the fire on the mountain. But I never heard that! I know you're saying that this and that was said to me, but unless you can prove it, there's no way that I'll be able to believe that those things were actually said to me. The way you're telling it, I could accept that this was communicated to the person in the story and that there was really something going on between you and them, but you're saying that this actually took place between you and me? I have no memory of this and I'll need some written verification, with validation of the script, in order to accept this scenario as true and be able to act on it. There are things that have been spoken throughout history that were spoken not just for the benefit of those within hearing distance, but for all those who would ever be able to receive the communication of their thoughts and directives. To qualify as one to whom these phrases have been intended only requires citizenship or membership of a specific nation or group of people. Every law that has been written on a federal level has been written directly to all citizens, whether or not they were there personally or not. Representation is all that is required in America for there to be validation of the laws that are written to our citizenry. By our connection with elected representatives, communication of important matters that pertain not only to us, but to our children takes place continually. We have a representative in heavenly places that has made everything that has been said to those who have gone before us apply to us personally. It's just like we were there hearing it for ourselves. How cool would that be, to have been right there with Abraham when God was making those promises to Him. To have been at Moses side on the mountain while God was communicating the 10 commandments on the stone would have definitely brought a whole different perspective to their existence. In fact, though, just like Moses is saying here in Deuteronomy, it really wasn't to just Moses that any of those things were said. Everything, to the smallest detail, that was said to Moses was actually said to the whole of the nation of Israel. And, in Christ everything that was promised to any that went before was actually said to all that would find their life in Him. 2Co 1:20 Whatever God has promised gets stamped with the Yes of Jesus. We were there, receiving all of the communication from God Himself, that included direction for living and promise of blessing. If there was something ever communicated to the nation of God's creation, it was said to us personally in Christ. He is our representative, our advocate, that makes every communicated thought or promise of God a valid and affective transmission of information to us personally. It's as if we really were there, hearing and seeing it for ourselves. We don't have to wait around for a light beam from heaven or a donkey to take off talking in order for us to receive direct communication from our Father. There may be a moment when something is experienced by way of a visitation from God to our physical senses, but this never has to take place in order for us to have God's communication to us personally. When we are given citizenship of the heavenly nation upon our acceptance of Christ, there is application of everything that has ever been promised, and we are given direct access to the reality of all that His promises and answers provide. We were there. It was said to us personally, and we can act as if its communication is ours, because it is. 4/25/05
