Touched Jos 3:15 When the priests got to the Jordan and their feet touched the water at the edge (the Jordan overflows its banks throughout the harvest), Jos 3:16 the flow of water stopped. It piled up in a heap--a long way off--at Adam, which is near Zarethan. The river went dry all the way down to the Arabah Sea (the Salt Sea). And the people crossed, facing Jericho. Some things will never change until they are touched. The river here in Joshua 3 just kept flowing as an obstruction until it was touched by holy feet. Samson's strength never left till a razor touched his head. (Judges 16) A man was being buried for dead until, touched by the dead bones of Elisha, he came back to life. (2Kings 13) As a man's lips were touched by a coal from the altar all guilt and sin were removed. (Isaiah 6) A mouth that was empty of words to speak was filled with inspired words of the Spirit when touched by God. (Jer 1) Countless times lives bound by sickness and disease were restored to complete health when touched by the hand of Jesus. Healing virtue faithfully came from Jesus to heal the sick whenever His garment was touched by those in need and in faith. Touched by just the passing shadow of Peter many that would have otherwise remained in sickness were totally healed. (Acts5:15) There is indeed an entrance into another realm of possibilities whenever one is touched by something that is full of the power of God. A change comes that could never have happened without it. Where the Spirit of the Lord is there is liberty, (2 Cor 3:17) and whenever there is a touching of this liberty to bondage, there is a removal of any binding chains and an entrance into complete freedom. It is interesting, though, that it isn't enough for some to just be accidentally touched by the power of God, there must be a receptive and believing condition in the heart of the one touched. The woman with the issue of blood in Mark 5 was singled out from the crowd of people touching Jesus. Her desire to seek Him with a purpose of discovering His power in her life caused her contact to stand out from the rest. In most of the scriptures that refer to the healing effect on those touched by the presence of God, there was a seeking heart in the one who received. This wasn't a heart of skepticism or doubt, but one that had simply been driven by a belief that if only contact could be made, healing would come. 2Ch 33:13 As he prayed, GOD was touched; GOD listened and brought him back to Jerusalem as king. That convinced Manasseh that GOD was in control. As we are moved beyond complacency to an action that takes us towards the presence and power of God, there is sure to be contact made and change implemented. As we seek His kingdom with all our heart, everything we need will be added to us. (Mat. 6:33) And, when we seek Him beyond our needs, there is an overflowing element of His glory that will spill out onto all those around us. A change will also come to their condition as they are touched by our hand or even passing shadow. This is our possibility; this is our potential in the life that's ours in Christ. Living beyond the confines of a sin dominated life, we can, by praying in an attitude of worship, actually make contact with the very heart of God and discover this reality in bodies that are free and that bring liberty to the oppressed. A seeking heart will find its place In liberty and freedom From walls well formed To confine and bind, Constraining any movement This place to go This place to be And where I'll be abiding Will be the place where healing flows His touch my ever knowing 4/30/04
