Stable Psa 119:161 I've been slandered unmercifully by the politicians, but my awe at your words keeps me stable. Psa 119:162 I'm ecstatic over what you say, like one who strikes it rich. In the middle of a political season such as the one we're in right now, there is a continual flow of accusations and proclamations all of which couldn't possibly be true. So many different perspectives on the same issue can make the person trying to be objective and open minded quite confused and befuddled. Even when there is a strong common belief with one of the candidates, he may come up with some contradiction or compromise that can undermine any growing confidence in him. There may be a foundation upon which support for him may be constructed, but it seems to be very precarious. It reminds me somewhat of a picture that was recently emailed to me of a "redneck" high-rise. This mobile home is suspended out over a hillside only by four sets of cinder block pillars. It looks as if the first stiff wind could just push it right over. It sort of makes you wonder why anyone would even bother to build something so obviously unstable. Given this barrage of inconsistencies and even experiencing them ourselves in those whom we may have personal contact, there is a strong need to find something of much more consequence to place trust and build a foundation of belief. It is such a privilege we have to easily escape the sandy ground of human nature and find a solid Rock upon which we can build our hope and future. There is One to whom we can give our ear who will never speak a word of contradiction. His Words carry a purity, integrity, and holiness that will never disappoint or unfairly condemn. As wonderful and glorious as the structure built upon His Words may potentially be, though, it will only take form as each truth that's heard is given the honor in worship that it deserves. Each Word will just remain stacked and ready to use in the building yard until it is taken by a grateful and adoring heart and placed with honor in a life that's found its purpose in fulfilling that Word's direction. Until its revelation brings the kind of awe and ecstasy expressed in these verses from Psalm 119, there'll be no stability of structure found. There is a whole tract of land set aside for us that is a life built upon the Solid Rock. As each Word-material is placed by the action of worship, there is stability established that will never fear for the first stiff wind of accusations and slander. This heart has found its place of refuge in the Rock that is unchanging and true. 7/1/04
