So, Who Are You Anyway? Jam 1:23 For if anyone is a hearer of the Word and not a doer, he is like a man studying his natural face in a mirror. Jam 1:24 For he studied himself and went his way, and immediately he forgot what he was like. Jam 1:25 But whoever looks into the perfect Law of liberty and continues in it, he is not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work. This one shall be blessed in his doing. Have you ever seen someone who obviously hasn't checked themselves out in the mirror for awhile? Maybe their hair is all disheveled, or maybe there's a remnant of a recent meal still abiding on their face? Or, maybe this person replies that, yes, they've looked in the mirror and everything is quite all right?- To which you reply, "And what mirror did you look in?", or , "Was the light on?"? How we see ourselves and how we deal with that perception is greatly affected by the mirror that we've been looking into, and how frequently we do so. If our sights are continually upon things of depression, fear, and defeat, then we will begin to see ourselves as depressed, fearful, and defeated individuals, and our actions will directly convey this perception. If, however, there is a continual gaze into the perfect Law of liberty, our position in Christ, and who God says we are in Him, we can't help but begin to act like this victorious person that we see in that mirror. It's not just some funky carnival mirror that distorts who we really are, either. It is the most accurate portrayal of all God has made us to be in Christ. We get to reflect and live His nature, likeness, and blessing in all that we do.
