Song Theme Psa 118:21 Thank you for responding to me; you've truly become my salvation! Psa 118:22 The stone the masons discarded as flawed is now the capstone! Psa 118:23 This is GOD's work. We rub our eyes--we can hardly believe it! Psa 118:24 This is the very day GOD acted--let's celebrate and be festive! There is always a song for the time and the place. Its sound can ever be heard as it responds to the vision before it. When it is a vision of darkness and gloom there is a certain "blues" sound to the song, coloring the atmosphere with its perception of hopeless reality. When the hand of the Master, though, has touched that vision, there is a definite tone of victory, no matter the tempo. A few lines may describe the surrounding terrain, but they are encompassed by phrases of the greatness to which He is taking us. These verses from Psa 118 are being sung at the completion of a work that took some time to perform. There is great rejoicing as the surroundings have become dominated by evidence of God's faithfulness and love. These verses are the part of the song that many people want to join in singing. When the night gives way to dawn and as the peak is reached, revealing an awesome view below, there is no problem finding those to join the choir in celebration. The victory party draws a crowd. "You've become my salvation". For there to even be a possibility of this song being heard at this moment of completed victory, it must have been the continuation of a theme inspired long before by hope for this day. At the beginning of the night and at the bottom of the mountain the heart of the would-be victor kept it on repeat play. "Become my salvation" implies a process of time in which this salvation was formed and brought to pass. There must have been a time when there was no reason to go on, other than the Word and the touch of the Master giving promise of victory yet to be experienced in Him. There was a time when, discarded by others as apparently useless, the phrases could still be heard in the heart song's melody of victory. Because the way was unquestionably impossible, at every point of its passage there was assurance that it could only take place by the working of the Greater One. Every point of progress inspired yet another reflection on the requirement of His involvement. By victory's end total reliance on Him was such a familiar tune that nothing was left to happenstance and the achievements of man-this was most surely the work of the Lord alone. May there ever be playing and singing of this victory song in our hearts, no matter how our progress may appear. Let it find continual inspiration in the vision formed by the words of the Master as we remain always within His touch. The greater the challenge/the greater the victory, and the greater the need to hold strong to the theme of victory for our heart song. There will be a day on the victory stand, but the song of salvation is a "now" song that will make that day possible. As it is the chosen theme of every moment, how marvelous will be the faithful working of the Lord's salvation in our lives. Psa 118:25 Salvation now, GOD. Salvation now! Oh yes, GOD--a free and full life! 4/20/04
