Love Story Psa 118:1 Thank GOD because he's good, because his love never quits. Psa 118:2 Tell the world, Israel, "His love never quits." Psa 118:3 And you, clan of Aaron, tell the world, "His love never quits." Psa 118:4 And you who fear GOD, join in, "His love never quits." (The Message) There is, in the telling of any life's story, a portion where the element of love gives reason for motivations and the purpose in that life. A long story of a life without the inclusion of the passion of love is a story that is somehow incomplete and without interest. This story may be quite boring and mundane, but as soon as the part of love is told, there is a connection of the heart that takes place and there is an engaging of emotions that rises above reason. While the story may be of the simplest life where no interest may be found, with the inclusion of the fire of love is a touching of the spirit that draws one in to the completion of its telling. Even if there is tragedy involved and no "lived happily ever after", the passion of love's involvement ignites the flames of universal understanding and brings significance to that story. The greatest movies and dramatic presentations are usually centered completely around the story of love and the impact its rejection, acceptance or withholding has on the life of its characters. While many other reasons can be given to the outcome of a life and whether or not it is considered to be successful, the ingredient of most significance is the ingredient of love and how it has been played out in that life's relationships. There also may be many, many relationships that make up the telling of the love portion, but the relationship that gives meaning to life even in the failing of all others is the relationship each life has with its heavenly Father. While other loves may falter and give up, while our humanity may not be completely acceptable to those around us, we have a Father who is perfect in His love, who loves us way beyond the condition of our apparent loveliness. He will never give up on us, no matter our failures or shortcomings, and in His loving favor He will always bring salvation and deliverance to the accepting and receptive heart. The psalmist here in Psalm 118 is singing about the mercy or love of God and how faithful and sure it is through all of life's circumstances. While great challenges arose and threatened to destroy, it was the love of God and his total mercy that brought victory every time. Psa 118:16 The hand of GOD is raised in victory! The hand of GOD has turned the tide!" Psa 118:17 I didn't die. I lived! And now I'm telling the world what GOD did. Though great and terrible threats came against David, the Lord was faithful to save every time and the telling of these stories of deliverance became for him the telling of a great love story. In understanding the condition of the Father's heart in bringing these victories to pass in David's life, there was a drawing of hearts together in passionate and productive divine love. In giving thanks and telling the story of His great love, David was honoring and worshiping his Father in a way that greatly enhanced and empowered this relationship. If he had taken God's goodness for granted and failed to celebrate it, he would have missed out on the most desirable of blessings and benefits, the wonderful entrance into an even closer relationship with His loving Father. It is wonderful to experience the story of love in a book or in a movie. It is inspiring to hear of prevailing love in the life of another. However, there is a story of love being lived and waiting to be told by each one of us about our own life and the love that's been a part of it. There will most certainly be parts that include human relationship and our involvement with each other, but there will also be a part that involves our Father and his pursuit of our heart. There is no doubt that the same Father who loved and took care of David desires to love and take care of us. His love isn't less available to any one of us above another. As He is given place and allowed to have an entrance to our hearts with His goodness, there will be many chapters to be told of His faithfulness and mercy, and in each one will be the telling of His love. As we progress in life, there is an opportunity in every moment for there to just bbe a rising and expanding glory given to Him in our lives and in our experience of His love. As our life becomes a continual celebration of the power of His love, it is given significance and finds completion and purpose. Having lived this life we will be able to say that "we didn't die, but we lived" to forever proclaim the goodness of our God lived in our life's story of love. Psa 118:29 Thank GOD--he's so good. His love never quits! 3/22/04
