Love Praise Psa 107:42 Good people see this and are glad; bad people are speechless, stopped in their tracks. Psa 107:43 If you are really wise, you'll think this over-- it's time you appreciated GOD's deep love. Throughout this psalm there is presented a list of examples of the love of God and its demonstration in the lives of those who call on Him: Verses 2-8, salvation from a desperate condition; Verses 9-15, deliverance from bondage; Verses 17-21, healing from sickness by His Word; Verses 23-31, quieting the treacherous storm; and Verses 33-41, transformation of the land to judge evil and care for His people. These verses are definitely meant to inspire a dynamic response in praise as verses 22, 32, and 42 indicate. But, there seems to be a calling here for something that goes beyond just a the striking up of the band. For those who have found a heart connection with the Worker of these incredible acts of power and superiority, there is a further appreciation gained, not just for His awesome ability, but for His use of that ability to demonstrate His love for them. When considering these situations where God has shown Himself to be the only answer and the only means of deliverance, there is more than just a stopping in the tracks with awe, there is a further bonding of that heart in appreciation and love for this Father who doesn't just possess the power to save, but readily demonstrates it in the lives of His children. This is a Father who does far more than just talk, He walks what He has spoken and reaches out in His strength to care, defend and provide for those He loves. There is a story of a powerful fireman, who, after a long day of putting out fires and rescuing people from their flames returned home to find that his own home was in a blaze with his only son trapped in his room on the second floor. There appeared to be no way for his son to be saved as the flames were leaping high into the air. Safety would have prohibited even the bravest fireman from entering the home at this point. Somehow, though, this father was able to resist fatigue, raging flames, falling timbers and choking smoke to fight his way to the second floor and save his son from certain death. Throughout this day the fireman had proven himself to be a hero and certainly gained the praise and admiration of all for whom he had demonstrated his power to save. For the son, though, there was much more than just an incredible act of bravery, deserving of accolades and headlines. There was a powerful act of love that went way beyond mere words to heart actions. Every time he would tell of this experience to friends it would not just be the story of an incredible "super-hero" feat, but it would be about an incredible demonstration of love by his very own father. There is a calling here in this 107th Psalm to go beyond being a spectator who is inpired to just shout praises along with the disconnected crowd. There is a place in praise where the heart-changed can be endeared to the One who has demonstrated His great love through acts of delivering power. He is, for us, way more than just an awesome God who renders us speechless. He is a loving Father who causes us to respond with heart-felt, passionate expressions of adoration and praise upon consideration of His great acts of love. 2/3/04
