Looking Psa 34:5 They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed. There is so much to be observed in the look, and the lack of ability to engage a look. I recently went with my son to see the latest King Kong movie. While it always seems a bit far-fetched that this huge creature could have a heart connection with this little being so much smaller than he, the way the movie portrayed this relationship was very convincing. From the first time the big creature was seen, there was a focus on his eyes, and, though never speaking a word, there was a great deal communicated through them. At first it seemed that he wanted the girl more so as a conquest and possession, but something began to occur between them when he found he couldn't dominate or scare her anymore with his roar and demeanor. Heart communication began to take place when he began to really look at this little person that wouldn't cower before him. He was angry at her for trying to escape and was trying to ignore her, until she started entertaining him by juggling, dancing, and singing. His first reaction was to just demand more, but the more he looked at her and the more eye contact took place between them, the more transformation took place in his attitude towards her. The more he looked, the more she was transformed from a possession, to this person that possessed him. It is unavoidable. When someone gets past the emotion and the self-consciousness in the presence of God, and begins to really look at Him as more than a possession to be used selfishly, there is a transformation that will take place. It may be that pain and discouragement has set in, due to the struggles and disappointments of life. It may be that even casting a gaze His way is somewhat of a difficulty because of a misperception of His true nature. But, if He may but catch our attention for a moment with a demonstration of His power and glory, there is something to be seen in Him that transforms Him from a mere possession to this incredible being who possesses us. There is a beauty and treasure to be seen in His eyes that will capture the heart and cause it to follow Him to the ends of the earth. While there is such power in looking unto Him, though, not everyone will actually see His worth and become enamored with His presence. Like the girl in the movie, there had been many people who had seen her, but were not too impressed with her appearance and ability. For some reason, though, there was this man and this beast that both saw more than just physical beauty. They were really seeing her for who she was. Jesus, too, has been seen by masses of people who have not really beheld more than a surface appearance. For each one, though, there is an opportunity to have this incredible face transformation, where the shame brought on by sin and failure is replaced by this glow of infatuation with the One who has been given heart possession in the moment He is truly seen.
