His Plan Exo 33:13 If I am so special to you, let me in on your plans. That way, I will continue being special to you. Don't forget, this is your people, your responsibility." Exo 33:14 GOD said, "My presence will go with you. I'll see the journey to the end." Most people have had the experience of being in an unknown locality with a desire to navigate across town to a hotel, restaurant, movie theatre or some place of interest or business. There is someone you know or have just met who knows the best way to get there, having made the trip several times themselves, but when you ask them for directions, instead of trying to tell them to you, they just say, "Hey, follow me and I'll get you there." You both jump in your cars and take off. If there are no other cars on the road and if there are no streetlights between you and your destination it is really no problem and you will probably arrive quickly, without a mishap. If, however, you're going through several intersections, having to make several turns and exits, and having to do all this in dense traffic it can be somewhat distressing, especially if this person you're following appears to be talking on the phone or listening to music or something else that indicates he's maybe forgotten you're there behind him. If a car or two or three happens to get between you, and he passes through a yellow light, leaving you at a red, your only hope is that he will notice this and stop to wait for you. This all works really well, though, if this person drives at a slow enough pace for you to remain immediately behind him, never allowing a separation between you. Moses had been told to go across this wilderness to the "Promised Land", and not only was he supposed to go, but he was supposed to lead a whole nation as if he knew what he was doing. This was proving to be too much for Him and he inquired of God just how this should progress, asking that God might give him all the directions. Apparently God had it all figured out and knew exactly where they were going and all the correct turns and obstacles. It would have been so very nice if He had just informed Moses of this so that he could adequately take all these people on the journey before them. There had to be a plan if this was going to work. Instead of just giving Moses the information, though, God's plan for his direction was that God would just go with him and show him the way. God basically said, "I know the way, just follow me and I'll get you there, no problem". We have an adventurous journey before us in a life that has been changed and given purpose in Christ. And this journey isn't just going to be ours alone, because we will most definitely influence many people as we progress along the way. It would be so nice to know each turn before we get there. It would be so easy to plan and prepare for the way several turns ahead, but we've been given something much better and more secure, the presence of the One that knows the way. He'll get us there if we'll let nothing get between us and keep His movements as the focus of our rapt attention. As we become secure in this "following Him", we will gain in confidence and security in His plan. As there is successful passage through many hairy moments and our position in Him is still closely held, we can begin to lose any anxiety whatsoever and just allow Him to lead, losing any worry about what lies around the next corner. There will definitely be many a "rush hour" or "difficult mountain pass" that will be a part of our way, but we have the best plan of getting there, the One who will take us through each one without a wrong turn or dented fender. Our only hope, though, is keeping our position with Him, only making moves that we see Him make, only taking turns as we see Him take them. What a peace and sense of confidence will reside as we begin to find Him faithful at every juncture. He will never take off and leave us, but will be with us to the very end. 3/29/04
