His Eye Psa 32:8 I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye. Walking through an airport terminal recently, there was a particular billboard that caught my eye. It was the very close-up image of a man that looked like he had been outdoors, and you could barely make out a beautiful landscape behind his image. Though his eyes were wide opened and intact, his gaze indicated that he might not be able to see with them. The message of the sign was something like "He Made It To the Top-Blind". I didn't actually study the billboard or find out its real purpose, but for me the image itself was incredibly inspiring. Here was a man that, though he could not see with his eyes, had a dream in his heart of scaling a high peak. It would probably be impossible for him to set out on his own as the danger of mountain climbing is so great even for those with vision. Even if he were to arrive at the top, what would be the reward as he would not be able to see the beautiful view? For it to be a rewarding possibility at all it would require the companionship of a friend, someone who understood his condition and was committed to insuring his safety and enjoyment of the adventure. Also, this person would need to have very clear vision. He would need to identify the landmarks that would take them on the right way and he would also have to identify the pitfalls and stumbling blocks that might cause him to fall and be injured. There would be no point along the way that they could separate and the blind man be allowed to proceed on his own. All of his progress would be directly connected to the vision of his friend. As turns in the path revealed beautiful landscapes, their beauty would also be his to enjoy as they were "seen" through the descriptive words of his friend. When the peak was finally reached it would be the mutual victory of him and the one who had dedicated his time, effort and vision to the success of his beloved companion. There are times in our adventure of life in Christ that the compelling desire and vision of our heart to ascend a challenging peak is greatly impeded by the lack of clear vision. Even though we might be strongly motivated by the rewards of arriving at that high place, we will probably not even make it half way if we attempt to set out on our own. The rocks and unseen drop-offs in our path can quickly cause us to be injured or to just give up and go back down to the flatland of known security. For us to make any progress at all we are in need of the One who not only sees everything in our path, but cares enough about us to take us on the right path and around the dangerous places. If we really want to arrive safely at that lofty place, there will be no point along the way when we may separate from Him and the voice that will reveal to us our surroundings. It is only as we remain right at His side that we can be assured of a safe ascent. With a developed dependence upon His vision and His eye, though, there will surely be an enjoyed mutual conquering of the peak by us and the One who has dedicated His time, effort and vision to the success of His beloved companions. Heb 13:5 ... "I'll never let you down, never walk off and leave you," Heb 13:6 we can boldly quote, God is there, ready to help; I'm fearless no matter what. Who or what can get to me?
