Groanings Exo 6:5 But now I've heard the groanings of the Israelites whom the Egyptians continue to enslave and I've remembered my covenant. Exo 6:6 Therefore tell the Israelites: "I am GOD. I will bring you out from under the cruel hard labor of Egypt. I will rescue you from slavery. I will redeem you, intervening with great acts of judgment. Exo 6:7 I'll take you as my own people and I'll be God to you. You'll know that I am GOD, your God who brings you out from under the cruel hard labor of Egypt. Exo 6:8 I'll bring you into the land that I promised to give Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and give it to you as your own country. I AM GOD." In prayer there is a time for expressions of frustration and discomfort in response to difficult situations. In this story there is an indication that from these very groanings there was the response of God in deliverance. While in Christ we have a refuge from any storm and the ability to weather anything that comes along and in fact be totally victorious in it, there is a place for the honest expression of discomfort. When this expression is brought to the source of freedom, it becomes something to which He can respond. There is not a need to experience further bondage and condemnation because of the natural expressions that arise from difficulties in life, but there is a way for them to become our deliverance prayers when heard by God. Exo 6:9 But when Moses delivered this message to the Israelites, they didn't even hear him--they were that beaten down in spirit by the harsh slave conditions. The trials may actually become so heavy that they make one oblivious to the promises and the words of comfort. When words alone fail to bring the lifting of the head necessary to see the salvation of the Lord, there is an understanding by our Maker and there is provision beyond our vision. Even though the Israelites couldn't see or respond to the answer that was upon them, God brought a powerful deliverance that went totally beyond their capacity for participation. The condition of their spirit did not prohibit God's provision. There is a responsibility in revelation, but there is also an understanding of our frame on the part of our Maker and He will be faithful beyond our strength. 1/26/04
