Goodness Psa 34:8 Open your mouth and taste, open your eyes and see-- how good GOD is. Blessed are you who run to him. Psa 34:9 Worship GOD if you want the best; worship opens doors to all his goodness. Still skeptical of this world into which she has come, everything will just have to be observed for a while before she'll let it come near or much less touch her. Even then, after much time has passed, unless she really likes what she's observed, there's not a chance that she will accept it and let it be a part of her life. Quite secure and confident in those that have been nearest and to whom she has bonded since birth, it is a major thing whenever she is separated from them. She quickly enters into an extended, loud, and mournful protest whenever this takes place. Her life is pretty much about finding out what she likes and what she doesn't like. It's about holding onto the good things and resisting those things she doesn't know about or thinks are bad. As this is a part of her natural development, there are things that though they are really very good, she never gets to experience, just because of this wall of skepticism. If only she could let down her guard long enough to taste and find out, boy, would she ever like it. Though she is very resistant to anything new, it is fun to watch her response to the things she's found to be acceptable and good. As the ice cream is being scooped out and put in a dish, she watches every move with wide eyes of anticipation, and, as the first spoonful is being spooned, she opens her mouth and extends her tongue in preparation and early acceptance of this stuff she's found to be just about the best thing since getting out of mommy. Then, as the door opens and the one who has been gone all day steps through the front door, she doesn't wait for him to come to her, she takes off as fast as her little diaper separated legs will take her. With open arms reaching up, she runs, smiling and laughing all the way till she finally arrives in his arms, that place she has found to be more than acceptable. There is much to be skeptical about in this world around us. Though we might consider ourselves to be mature and grown-up, we are really just bigger versions of the little child in its discovery of the world. It's still all about holding onto the good things and resisting those things we don't know about or think are bad. The difficulty for us is that, after finding out so many things aren't really as they are touted, we can find ourselves resisting just about everything that comes along. While there is wisdom in not just being gullible, there is an Experience and a Someone that will be more real and good than any other that we have or will experience. If only once we could really taste of His goodness and find ourselves in His arms of love, there would be no resistance to His presence or His presentation of those tasty and good things He has to offer. Our mouths would then be wide open and our tongues extended to receive His spoons full of sweetness. Arms lifted up and legs running as fast as they could take us, we would run into His presence to be lifted once again in His arms of love. There really is this place available to us in Him, where the walls of resistance and skepticism are removed through a legitimate experience of His presence and His goodness. This place is opened to us as we make the bold and adventuresome move of trying Him out. By opening up to Him in worship, there is an opening of a door to His goodness that we will never want to close again. Convinced through our tasting that he is good beyond comprehension, we'll forever be wanting more and doing whatever it might take to insure that we remain there safe and satisfied in His arms of love. 6/7/04
