"God" Place Eze 11:18 When they return, they are to get rid of all the filthy, disgusting idols they find. Eze 11:19 I will give them a new heart and a new mind. I will take away their stubborn heart of stone and will give them an obedient heart. Eze 11:20 Then they will keep my laws and faithfully obey all my commands. They will be my people, and I will be their God. Though there may not be a conscious awareness of it, there is this part of every human being that requires the existence and service of a "god". The way we are formed requires us to have an object of appreciation and an object to which we give allegiance and service. Even the people that would contend that there is no "God" themselves have something in their life to which they ascribe great honor and appreciation. It may be their vocation or a sport figure or a particular possession that they highly value. While they may contend thay they don't believe in "God", they are all the while believing very strongly in a "god" that really dictates to them many, most, or all of their actions. As this thing becomes a "god" it takes possession of the heart and becomes a driving motivational force. This is part of the purpose in marketing, to get people to set their heart on some object, practice, or service. If the marketers can get a person to set their heart on something, they know there is a very good chance they will attain or acquire this thing. It's all about the heart and the things of the spirit of man, because there is no life without the service of a god. As there is understanding of this, there is a completely different approach to all that is ours in this world. Any time something is so important to us that we cannot function normally without it, it is a "god" to us and is displacing within us the occupation of the Spirit as the centerpiece of our heart. This is why it is so necessary to let the things that we are called to in Him dictate the rest of our lives and the things we choose to do. As soon as these other things dictate to us how we function with regard to the Spirit, there is no longer a heart of devotion to the God who has saved us from the bondage of their service. This is why Jesus said to take no thought about all these other things. As soon as a thought is taken and dwelt upon, it can become a "god" to us, demanding our service. Praise and worship is essential for us then, in that we must be continually renewed in our appreciation and honor of His greatness in order for it to not be changed in its precedence over all the other things in our life. As we live a total life of worship that is ours in Christ, our minds and hearts are kept from occupation by the "gods" of this world. In the service of any other god, there may be apparent worldly success, but there is never complete fulfillment in abundant righteous living until all other "gods" in our lives are placed in service to the one and only true God of grace, mercy and truth. For passion and pursuit of the One who has taken my heart and for complete occupation by Him in the god-requirement of my heart let a praise ever be on my lips and a thought of worship always on my mind. 2/19/04
