Flood Gates Exo 14:30 GOD delivered Israel that day from the oppression of the Egyptians. And Israel looked at the Egyptian dead, washed up on the shore of the sea, Exo 14:31 and realized the tremendous power that GOD brought against the Egyptians. The people were in reverent awe before GOD and trusted in GOD and his servant Moses. When deliverance truly comes at the hand of the Lord, there will be a response of reverent awe at the demonstration of His great power. This will be a spontaneous reaction that is fueled by the reality of His ever-present potential. There is this incredible force of power in the reservoir of a water supply. Though it may be very deep and wide, this force, as long as it is dammed, is without evidence of its powerful potential. It may be possible to reside along the shores of this water reserve for a lifetime without ever observing a demonstration of that of which it is capable. There is a response, however, that will transpire when this power is shown to be all that it can be through lifting of the flood gates and gushing of the water's currents. This substance, that has only appeared to be of a quiet, passive nature is now turned into something of which there could have been no premonition, no foreknowledge. It becomes a force that will destroy anything before it, leaving nothing untouched in its path. When this demonstration takes place the observer will be completely changed in his assumptions about this water substance. From that point on there will be an awesome reverence for the powerful potential ever resident in its depths. Who could have possibly guessed that the Egyptians would meet their end in this way? By every well-formed reasoning from previous experience, first of all, there could be no crossing of this large sea before them. Then, if they could cross themselves, surely their enemies would be following close behind. There was a power present that went way beyond anything they could have possibly guessed, however, and when this power was demonstrated in the way that it was there was nothing to do but be overwhelmed with awe and reverence. If there had been any doubts about the ability of God to do what He said He would do, those doubts were now removed and replaced by complete and total trust in this awesome God and the servants who represented Him. They had not just been spectators from the bleachers at this great demonstration of God's power. It wasn't like they were just seeing it take place in someone else's life. This was taking place personally on their behalf to remove imminent danger and certain death. From that day forward they would understand the ability of God in a way that could never have been known without this first-hand experience. Forever the mention of God's name to them would hold a source of reverence and awe. There is resident in every moment this incredible reservoir of power that is capable of complete and total removal of all obstacles in its path. This power goes way beyond anything of which we might have a reference point. It may be possible to go through all of life without ever experiencing a measure of its power or to just observe it in someone else. When the flood gates of this power are unleashed upon a particularly difficult obstacle in our own life, though, by speaking the name of Jesus and what He has said regarding this obstacle, there will be a release of power in a way that could never have been predicted. Where the situation may have been without any natural resolution, in God there will be a supernatural solution that will inspire only awe and reverence. In applying His name and His word to our very lives and seeing the tremendous power of the Lord demonstrated, there will be an entrance to another realm of worship that could never have been known without it. God, in this personal experience of His power, will go from a dormant, passive, unseen power to a power that goes beyond understanding, completely revealing Himself in delivering force. Instead of trying to conjure up an emotional response to an "impersonal and powerless" entity, there will be an uncontrollable response of love, admiration, awe and reverence for this God who has found an opening in our dam to make Himself known in our deliverance. A true heart of worship will never be found wanting where there has been a personal experience of His awesome, doubt removing power. 2/24/04
