Application Exo 12:13 The blood will serve as a sign on the houses where you live. When I see the blood I will pass over you--no disaster will touch you when I strike the land of Egypt. It is not enough to have a way made for salvation, it must be applied in order to have a function and be effectual in life. I've often wondered why it was that they had to actually put the blood from the sacrificed animal on the doorposts. It's not like God wouldn't know that the sacrifice had been made and not be able to automatically exclude all in the home from devastating judgment. Surely once the necessary spiritual requirement was made with the death of the animal, there would be a clear establishment of the home as one that qualified for exclusion. Somehow, there was a step that went beyond private sacrifice to public and exposed proclamation which was necessary to completely fulfill the blood requirement. They wouldn't be able to say, "Hey, my heart was right. I really did sacrifice that creature, I just left out that little part about putting his blood on the door. I got the main part right, didn't I? Can't you give me a break?". Until the blood could be clearly seen by all that would pass, until its application visually set the house apart from those without a sacrifice, there might as well have never been a sacrifice made. For us the sacrifice has already been made. The perfect Lamb has been slain. There is left, though, the application of His blood on the doorposts of our abode. The difference for us, though, is that there is not access to the actual blood of our Lamb. How can we physically apply His blood if there is no way to physically touch it? There is a way for us to do this in a life of worship. While there may not be tangible and visible blood seen on our natural house, there can be definite evidence of the sacrifice made and application of its blood on the doorposts of our conduct. By insuring that it is applied to our every moment and every move there is an application of the Lamb's blood to the doorposts of our life. There will be very clear evidence of its application not only in how we respond to God's presence, but also in how we display His righteous provision to all that may observe. It will not be enough for there to be just a verbal proclamation. Applying the blood will not be completed through an incantation alone, but requires a much more constant and visible evidence in how it is displayed through our living. Taking each aspect of our redemption and continually applying it to the conduct of our life of worship makes the sacrifice to be more than an event that took place in private. In doing so there is an application of its blood to our exposed and visible life and there is a way made for its completed provision. 2/16/04
